I apologize for being so inactive on my blog lately. I started this website right before COVID-19 hit and turned the entire world into an apocalyptic state. Not a great time to be in the travel writing business, my friends, or any for that matter.
Between the pandemic and the recent birth of my baby girl, I have had my hands full, neither of which have been travel-filled.
Since travel has been put on the back burner temporarily, I redirected my energy into my second largest passion, cooking!
I have been experimenting with several new recipes lately and cooking nightly dinners for my family, and this has been great, (okay, I’ve had a few flops, I’m only human,) but one particular evening I was hit hard with a sense of shame.
I was reminiscing on memories of Christmas’s passed while cleaning out my garage and had a sudden craving for my grandmother’s infamous green jello salad and my mother’s green bean casserole that was made every holiday. The shame suddenly deepened when I realized I would never know my grandmother’s recipe. She passed away several years ago, leaving her green jello salad as nothing more than a joyous memory. This broke my heart. Sure, I could google ‘green jello salad,’ but it would be lacking sentiment and familiarity.
I was feeling a heavy sense of nostalgia for family dinners, for staple family dishes, for delicious smells wafting from the kitchen amongst the roaring laughter from family gatherings. This sparked an idea, and one I had to run with immediately.
Since, I, myself, have been creating new recipes almost daily what better way to document them than a recipe record book.
I know I could have run to Walmart and potentially found a blank recipe book, but that wasn’t enough, I wanted to create one myself centered around the importance of family.
While longing for my grandma’s recipe, it hit me that these sacred family dishes are always at the risk of becoming extinct with each passing day that we never write them down.
I personally have created some really awesome meals lately, (if I do say so myself!) and sure as heck want my kids to remember my awesome cooking once I’m no longer able to cook for them. I want them to remember family dinners, laughing, and the meals they used to help me cook. I want them to be able to someday recreate my recipes with their own children, and so on and so forth, so our family recipes and traditions are never at risk of extinction. I will never know my great-great-grandchildren, but they will know how tasty my shrimp alfredo is thanks to my recipe book!
I created Tastes Throughout Thyme to keep the memories alive. It’s more than just a blank recipe book, it’s a family lifeline, with the potential to be filled with family tradition and lineage for generations to come. Each page allows you to document your recipes, your grandma’s recipes, your uncles recipes, your crazy aunt who is always drunk every Thanksgiving, it allows you to fill the pages with memories and recipes that will stand the tests of time, (or in my case, thyme.)
Each page comes with room to write down your ingredients, preparation, and even a spot for photos if you so choose. There are even two different cover and page options depending on your preference.
Don’t get me wrong, this recipe book isn’t JUST for moms or family tradition. It’s also for every person who is guilty of pinning hundreds of recipes they never return to, taking screenshots on google that take up their phone storage but are quickly forgotten about, for ripped out magazine pages that get lost in cluttered kitchen drawers. This is the perfect solution to keep all your recipes organized that you can look back on time and time again.
This also makes for an extremely cool and thoughtful gift!
I have included the links to my blank recipe book below, if you decide to purchase it, FIFTY percent of all book profits will be donated to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital in hopes we can send several children home for family meals of their own.
